TOUSLED: Ready to Wear Hair with Greg Gilmore
This is a boutique-style education experience with the ease of a speakeasy conversation. We’ll be candid with one another, ask the questions that often go unanswered in a traditional class, and look closely at the decisions behind premium color, cutting, and styling work.
I’ll work with three live, color-treated models representing curly hair, straight natural hair, and relaxed short hair. We’ll talk through color placements that feel distinctive but can be replicated in the salon, along with cutting and styling choices that support each finished look. We’ll also discuss how to select and use premium products with intention, from protecting the integrity of the hair to delivering the quality a client expects from a premium service.
The conversation begins before the first formula is mixed. How do you learn what a client needs, what she wants, and what she may not yet have the words to ask for? Her lifestyle, her work, the places she goes, how much time she gives her hair, and the person she is becoming all have a place in the consultation. We’ll explore how to listen for that story and translate it into a look that complements her life today.
Then we’ll follow the story beyond the salon chair. I’ll show how to turn the consultation, process, and finished result into a compelling storyline for social media. We’ll end with a practical demonstration of how to photograph and film the work: how to position the client, find the right light and angles, capture the details that make the look distinctive, and recognize the moments worth recording while the service is happening.
What attendees can expect
• Three live models: Curly hair, straight natural hair, and relaxed short hair, with discussion of their color, cutting, and styling choices.
• A deeper consultation approach: Questions that uncover the client’s needs, preferences, lifestyle, and relationship with her hair.
• Premium color service thinking: How to plan placements, protect hair integrity, choose products with purpose, and create results that meet a higher standard.
• Techniques you can take back to the salon: Color placement ideas and cutting and styling decisions that are both distinctive and practical to repeat.
• Open professional conversation: Space to ask candid questions about technique, decision-making, client expectations, and the realities of delivering the service.
• Storytelling for social media: How to connect the client’s story to the transformation without losing sight of who she is.
• A photo and video demonstration: Client positioning, angles, movement, detail shots, and the moments to capture throughout the process so you have useful footage when it is time to post.
Come ready to ask questions, share what you’ve encountered behind the chair, and look at the person behind the look.
